BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins University Director of Athletics Alanna W. Shanahan, along with Blue Jay men’s lacrosse coach Dave Pietramala and women’s lacrosse coach Janine Tucker, have announced the establishment of the Johns Hopkins Lacrosse Advisory Board.
The advisory board, which will be comprised of 24 individuals, will bring together active leaders and supporters of Hopkins Lacrosse to help the men’s and women’s programs develop a more comprehensive network that will better the lacrosse student-athletes’ undergraduate and postgraduate experience.
The board will help both programs create a mentorship platform, plan internship and professional networking events across the United States, improve communication and engagement with our alumni community and promote and explore new philanthropic initiatives. The board will meet annually in Baltimore and have scheduled conference calls throughout each fiscal year.

The Johns Hopkins men’s lacrosse program is the most storied in the history of the sport. Since first fielding a team in 1883, Johns Hopkins has won 44 national championships, including nine NCAA titles, and produced a national-record 183 First Team All-Americans and 70 inductees in the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
The Blue Jay women’s lacrosse program made its debut in 1976 and moved from the Division III to the Division I level in 1999. Since 1999, Johns Hopkins has qualified for the NCAA Division I Tournament six times and produced 13 All-Americans. Historically, the Blue Jays have made 15 appearances in the NCAA Tournament and have produced 16 members of the Johns Hopkins Athletic Hall of Fame.
Pietramala and Tucker, who rank as the winningest coaches in Johns Hopkins men’s and women’s lacrosse history, respectively, both transitioned their teams into the Big Ten in recent years. Their programs are housed in the Cordish Lacrosse Center, the first lacrosse-only building of its kind in the nation.
The 24-person Johns Hopkins Lacrosse Advisory Board will commence its initiatives in advance of the 2018 season with its first in-person meeting on Saturday, October 21.
